Belacan is a hardened block of shrimp paste, made from tiny shrimp mixed with salt and fermented. The fermented paste is then ground into a smoother paste, then sun dried, shaped into blocks, and allowed to ferment again. It tastes delicious when used to prepare Peranakan, Malay and Eurasian dishes and adds zest to all your rice and noodle dishes! As a great kitchen seasoning widely popular in Malaysia, many use our belacan to fry it with Kang Kong, pair it with Nasi Goreng, Sambal Spinach or use it as condiment for rice or congee.
